Otago Regional Council Plan Changes 1, 7 & 8
The Otago Regional Council has proposed two plan changes to the Regional Plan: Water for Otago; namely Plan Change 7 (Water Permits) and Plan Change 8 (Water Quality) and has proposed a third plan change to the Regional Plan: Waste for Otago; namely Plan Change 1 (Dust Suppressants & Landfills).
In April 2020, the Minister for the Environment, the Hon. David Parker, at the request of the Otago Regional Council ‘called-in’ the proposed plan changes and referred them to the Environment Court for decision.
The Environment Court has accepted a notice of motion subsequently filed by the Otago Regional Council and the court must now give a decision on the provisions and matters raised in submissions in accordance with s 149U of the Resource Management Act 1991.
Note: Plan Changes 1 and 8 are also referred to as the “omnibus” plan change by the Otago Regional Council and others.
